26 years ago, before I was born, the Milwaukee Brewers professional baseball club made the playoffs and went to the World Series where they lost in 7 games, in part because of an injury to one of their best players.
They haven’t been back since.
For the last few generations my family has been primarily Brewers and Packers fans and so I grew up loving these teams. But while the Packers and one Brett Favre have been mostly successful, the Brewers have been one of the worst teams in baseball. Until a few years ago. Then last year, with a young roster of superstar talent they built an 8.5 game lead in the division only to collapse in September and miss out on the playoffs.
But finally, today, the Milwaukee Brewers are back in the playoffs, thanks to a last at-bat home run and a complete game effort from their best pitcher – and a little help from the NY Mets. The day began with a tie, but it will end with the promise of October baseball.
Oh, fall is gonna be good this year….
